About Lunds saluhall

In the heart of Lund

Saluhallen is located between the Botulf Square and Mårten Square. It is a meeting place for food lovers with around twenty shops and restaurants.

Saluhallen in Lund has been a culinary tradition in the centre of Lund since 1909. Here you will find flavours both from the Scanian area and from more exotic places. All seasoned with knowledge, high quality and personalised service.

The history of Lunds Saluhall

21 April, 1909 Inauguration

Saluhallen was opened on 21 April, 1909 and has always been the natural gathering place for food lovers and vendors of high-qualitative goods in the region. At the beginning it consisted of a large main hall and two smaller halls for cheese and fish. Today there is a large food hall with a section for shops and a section for restaurants. The key words are, and have always been, quality, service and knowledge. The existence of Saluhallen has at times been challenged and in the 1970s the city’s culinary centre was about to be transformed into an all-activity house. Thankfully, it was decided to let the place stay true to its original purpose: to be a place where one can purchase all kinds of food items, from pheasant meat, potato, beef, cheese and cod to truffles and caviar.

In 1975, the Market Hall was renovated and continued its operations. Ten years later, food service establishments were also introduced, further expanding the range of offerings. In 2009, an extension of the Market Hall began, resulting in what you see today: the original historic market section alongside the newer restaurant wing, featuring large glass façades facing Botulf Square.
Our market halls in Sweden may not look quite like those found elsewhere in Europe, but here in Lund, we can promise you an outstanding selection and personal service – just as it should be.

On 30 April 2025, Lunds Kommuns Fastighets AB (LKF) took over ownership of the Market Hall, with the mission of strengthening its position as a modern and commercially vibrant hub for food, trade, and gastronomy while respecting its rich history. Sustainability and quality remain guiding principles in this ongoing development.

The next time you visit the Market Hall, take a moment to pause. Look up at the ceiling and at the original clock mounted on the wall facing Mårtenstorget, and imagine how the Market Hall has stood on this very site for more than a century. Countless meals have been enjoyed and countless meetings have taken place here over the years. One can only wish the walls could speak and share all the stories they have witnessed.
